Aly's year reflection

                     Aly's year reflection

                                  My year in Grade 5

My year in Grade 5 had its ups and downs. Some subjects I find challenging, some I find fun, and some I find quite simple. Here I will tell you about all the subjects and how I improved in all of them from the beginning.

                             Reading

In reading, I enjoyed the read-a-louds, especially the book Wonder. At the beginning of the year, I thought reading was boring. But after a lot of time, books, and characters, I changed my mind. Now I think reading is fun if you are in a book that is just right for you.

                             Writing

We had a lot of units in  Reading this year. My two favorite ones were fantasy and informational. Then it was argument and advocacy. I liked fantasy because we got to publish our own fantasy 14-page book with our own illustrations. Then, we got to read it in front of other students and parents.

                                 Math

This was my 6th year doing Eureka Math. I thought math was not fun because we had to show our work. But as soon as I went to Math Olympiad I started to like math because we did not have to show our work with a model as we had to in  Eureka Math.

                            Science

At first, I thought science was hard but after we finished the units, I realized that it was very fun. My favorite unit in science was the animal adaptations unit because we got to do a very fun project with a partner.

                         Most Challenging
My most challenging subject was math at the beginning of the school year because I thought it was hard and boring. But after I had a growth mindset about it and tried in math, I became very good at it and it became my favorite classroom subject.

                           Most Enjoyable

My most enjoyable classroom subject this year was math because I improved in it a lot. I enjoyed debating about the answers to the problem then recalculating them over and over again until we find the right answer.

                            Most Proud of

I'm most proud of math because I got the highest score in it. after getting all my tests back I calculated my average score and it was 97% higher than any other subject I got. ( I always calculate my average when I get tests back.)

                           Most Growth

I grew the most in math because at the beginning of the year I got 17 out of 20 on all my tests but in the third trimester, writing I didn't get lower than 19 out of 20.

World Development

                      World Development

How is science and technology changing the world, past,             present, and future?

Science and  technology affected the world in the past present and future in a large way. For example, back in the dinosaur age, cavemen used animal bones to break their stuff. Now, the technology has changed and we have a hammer. In the future, we the technology will change and we will have something else like a robot breaking it for you instead of you using the hammer with your hands. It has affected most of the things you use in your everyday routine.

Are these changes good or bad? Why or Why Not?

These changes are both good and bad but I think they are more helpful than harmful. I think these changes are good because it is helping us a lot. For example, technology got us cure for diseases, beds, clothes, education, TV, video games, phones and a lot of other medical support, entertainment support, education support, food support, etc. Technology makes and helps everyday things in our lives.

flood stream table

                       Flood Stream Table

The flood stream table was very different from the standard one. There was much more water so it formed a larger delta. Also, the drainage basin was very strong and big unlike the standard one.

cool careers

                                cool careers

Here you will learn about 3 cool careers or jobs that study the science of earth.

                                             Geologist

the first job is a geologist, geologists study rocks and the different types of them. They study how rocks change overtime.

                                                        Archaeologist

Archaeologists study how humans used supplies in the wild to live. For example cavemen used animal bones for tools.

                                             Geography

Geography is the study of lands and different types of landforms and how they change overtime.

Virtual Reality

                     VIRTUAL REALITY

We saw waterfalls in the VR experience. It was so fun and educational in the same time. We learned about different types of landforms.
